Beach Areas for Retirement
Seaside Retirement Communities
If you are nearing retirement age and you don’t want to live in the same area you’ve worked your whole life in, you may be searching for beach areas for retirement. Finding the best places to live out your twilight years is an important decision, but there are a number of destinations which build their entire identity around attracting retirees.
Florida Beach Areas for Retirement
Florida is synonymous with retirement, but that’s because Florida’s 1,197 statute miles of coastline and 663 beaches provide the best and the most beach areas for retirees. If living on the ocean front isn’t important to you, there are 11,000 miles of rivers, streams and other waterways in Florida, while the relatively thin width of the state means beaches are a short drive away from most areas in the state. But people reading this article are interested in retiring near the seashore, so I’ll list the highest-rated Florida beach areas for retired folks.
Palm Beach, Florida Delray Beach, Florida Bonita Springs, Florida St. Petersburg, Florida
Outside of Florida, Walnut Creek, California is listed as a prime location for retired people to make a home in. Walnut Creek is 16 miles east of Oakland in the San Francisco Bay area, and the city itself is a business and entertainment hub. With close proximity to San Francisco, Sacramento, and San Jose, a retiree will never be without some interesting activity nearby.
Golf Retirement Locations near the Beach
Many retirees want to spend time golfing, so there are a number of location that are tailor-made for golfing, but which are also near a beach. Obviously, some of these are going to be expensive living, but that’s not the case in all these examples – Pebble Beach, California notwithstanding.
Pebble Beach, California Rancho Mirage, California Bonita Springs, Florida Mount Pleasant, South Carolina (essentially in Charleston)
When you retire, it’s time to move south, find a beach, and settle for life. You don’t necessarily have to retreat to the warmth of Florida and California to get away from the cold winters of the Northwest and Midwest, but there’s reason these are the most popular areas for seniors. If you’re looking for other ideas, though, keep reading.
