What is an appropriate age to take your children to the beach?

I want to take my son since it’s beach weather for sure but he’s only three months and I guess it’s not that bright an idea at this young an age.
Well we don’t live close to a beach, it’s like a four hour drive so I’d **** to go and then just turn back around!
