Would Fort Lauderdale Beach be warm enough to enjoy swimming in the ocean for vacation in January?

I have a choice to go there Jan. 1st to the 8th and I would like to know if the water is warm or if the beach scene is enjoyable. Would there be many people there?

I have been there in Jan went swimming and the water was very warm. The natives think us northern folk are crazy to swim in the winter. I say they are just spoiled.

The weather is very fickle down here..one day might be a perfect summer day and the other cloudy and clammy. There shouldn’t be too many people, the Russian snowbirds leave by then..although I highly recommend vacationing in Miami Beach instead…better beaches, better hotels, more things to do, and a generally more vibrant atmosphere!

Depends where you’re from and what you’re used to for cold water. I’m from Maine but I lived in Miami for a few years..so I should’ve found Miami’s/Ft.Laud’s water in the winter to be warm enough to swim in right? But I definitely thought it was too cold for swimming. Not even exaggerating. It was cold. In my opinion you’d have to go farther south for pleasant swimming in winter. Should only be locals and college kids there. Good luck and have fun!
