What is the prettiest, most picturesqe beach town in all of Southern California?

I’m envisioning a pretty, picture post-card town on the ocean with a nice public beach that lies anywhere between Santa Barbara and San Diego. A real beauty to the eye. Can you think of a California beach town that fits this description?

best post card veiws I’ve seen are Laguna Beach for the town, and wayfarer’s chapel San Pedro for the ocean view.
There’s a view from Marina del Rey looking east that has a nice view of yachts in the foreground and the city skyscrapers in the back ground.

San Clemente, La Jolla or Ocean Beach.
La Jolla has awesome views, dining and shopping and usually gets the most ‘wows’ when I take people from out of town to visit it.
San Clemente’s beach and Main Street have pretty views. The view from the hill that you drive down to get to the beach just opens up when you get a view of the water for the first time. It’s also more affordable than La Jolla.
Ocean Beach is the most affordable, laid-back and relaxing of the 3. It also has the most originality. You won’t find chain stores or tons of chain restaurants in OB.

Cardiff, Solana Beach and Del Mar are all close to each other, off the beaten path and are also great looking towns. It all depends on what you’re looking for. Check out the web pages below for pics of the places.

santa barbra is beautiful but overall
the best area to go to is Laguna Beach. def the best ive seen and i been here my whole life.
stay clear of huntington and newport. even tho those are the most popular because of shopping and great bars they are pretty trashy dirty beaches

Carpinteria State Beach: 12 miles south/east of Santa Barbara. My favorite beach is Carpinteria, which is advertised as “The World’s Safest Beach”. There is plenty of beach for swimming or body surfing. There are some excellent tide pools on the south end of the beach, and some large natural tar seeps nearby, which is how the beach got its name (The Spaniards noticed that the local natives used the tar to make their canoes… the word Carpinteria basically means “wood shop”). Also, there are plenty of places to explore in the nice little town. There are fun local restaurants like the Spot (just look for the line of people on Linden Avenue), the Palms (where you cook your own steak), or Giovanni’s Pizza (where they have excellent antipasto salad). There is even an old-fashioned candy store called Robitaille’s (RO-bah-ties). Kids will also probably like the surf shop (Matt Moore’s Rincon Designs), and Foster’s Freeze… nothing like a ice cream cone on a warm afternoon. The trains go by, but it’s a minor inconvenience compared to the benefits. In fact, it’s a source of entertainment, since you can put a penny on the tracks and watch it get smashed flat by the train. Camping on the beach doesn’t get any better than Carpinteria, which puts you steps away from the sand and surf. Be sure to bring your bikes: It’s one of the favorite activities besides going to the beach. Just before dinnertime, the campground has more bikes moving than cars. If you don’t want to camp, there are a number of hotels in town.
