What is a good beach within a 4 hour drive of Sacramento to visit for a long weekend?
I’m looking for a place that is not horrifyingly expensive, that’s not designed for couples, and that has some touristy stuff around or at the very least some bars and restaurants. I am new to this side of the country and have no clue where to go. I would prefer to find a reasonably priced room that has an ocean view and is within walking distance to a sandy beach.
Thanks!
Oh and this would be for early June.
Josh, I will so come visit you. I have been wantin to road trip it down to LA this summer anyway.
D When do you arrive?

Well, you could come and visit me in two months when I move to LA. You know, we’ll do lunch, then a movie, then to the beach so we can frolic all throughout the day blissfully prancing around like it’s no ones business.
Other than that, I don’t know any place else. Good luck!

Santa Cruz and Monterey beaches are fun and beautiful, but closer to the 3.5 – 4 hour mark from Sacramento. Fort Bragg in Mendocino Co and anywhere north or south of there are beautiful too. Bodega Bay and Dillon Beaches are also good. They’re in Sonoma County just west of Petaluma/Santa Rosa. You should also drive along the Marin County coastline and visit the lighthouse off the point just north of San Francisco. Another idea is to spend the day just driving along Hwy 1 and visiting the various beaches along the way.
P.S.: lol Ruby. Someone’s desperate for a date.

Santa Cruz. Los Angeles would be too far.

In between Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay are a couple of great places that usually aren’t all that crowded (unlike Santa Cruz, itself), even in Summer. San Gregorio St. Beach is nice. Of course, in June, I don’t think any of the Elephant seals are at Ano Nuevo that time o’ year. I’m pretty sure there’s still a seaside motel six in Half Moon Bay, but I’ve been stuck here SoCal for a long time, so I couldn’t swear to it.
If you do decide to go with the majority opinion on here, and Visit Santa Cruz, let me know, because one of my oldest and dearest friends, Gina, still lives there, and I could put you in touch and she could update you on the best places, in terms of bars, restaurants, et.al.

Bodega Bay has it all, great resturants, no crowds, lots of quaint places to stay, a golf course and beautiful beaches(Doran Beach, Goat Rock,Wrights beach, and many other nice beaches). I go there often.
